I want to write a bit about business and explore the idea of service and why it is such an important aspect.
A business essentially starts from nothing and develops from serving.
Business is such an intricate topic. There are so many complexities to it, from starting it, maintaining it, sustaining it, the list goes on.
A business is like a live entity, it needs to be treated with care and consideration on all levels for it to function and be healthy, much like a human being.
One simple truth I am learning from business is that it only wants to serve.
The sole purpose of any business is service.
Yes, money too, but if we only do business for money, then it might be a bit devoid of substance, won’t it?
Behind every business is a human being, and as human beings, we are designed to serve, help one another, and make things easier for one another, including ourselves.
Although, we are really good at making things harder, not only for ourselves but for others too.
If you are in a business or starting a business or thinking about starting a business, why do you want to do it or why are you doing it?
What is at the heart of your business?
If you don’t have a business, why are you doing the work you are doing?
What is at the heart of the service you are providing or would like to provide?
Maybe one question we can all ask ourselves is: how can I make someone else’s life easier with the tools and skills I have?
Another question: how can I learn to treat myself and my business better? Just like we need to tend to our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual needs, so too do we need to tend to the various needs of our business. What is that for you?
