In this blog post, I want to share a bit about distractions or avoidance tactics and truly uplifting, enriching experiences. There’s a difference between the two.

First, let me ask you: do you know offhand what your avoidance tactics are? What distracts you from doing things you know in your heart you need to be doing to feel better or progress in your life, business, or relationships?

We do things either as distractions, in other words, escapism, or as enrichments or growth-oriented experiences.

If we want to get better at who we are in this world, for ourselves and others, it is up to us to determine what we are escaping from.

Maybe we escape unknowingly from ourselves? We are too scared to face our pain or trauma, to look at ourselves in the mirror, our shame and insecurities are right there.

So, we distract ourselves by looking at our phones, social media, drinking, smoking, eating too much, addictions, you name it.

We have become master escape artists of our lives.

If this feels true for you, even in a small way, ask yourself how you can become creative in your life, in other words, what can you do to create enriching, healthy, joyful moments in your life, moments that you are not escaping, but embracing.

This might have to start with facing yourself. Look in the mirror, look at who you are, who you have become over the years.

Maybe you need to see a counselor or ask for help, but if you feel you want to stop escaping, then take an action step towards creating.

Ask yourself: What am I escaping? How can I create better moments for myself?
